hey dude.

First of all, before you read this letter i want you to know that i don't believe in god either.
Basically i was just wondering why you seem so eager to convince people that god doesn't exist.  I hope i didn't get the wrong impression after reading your article "The pope is humpty dumpty" but it seems that you seem hostile towards people who do believe in god.  I just wanted to know that i don't think that you should try and convince people of things that they don't want to believe.   I mean, i don't believe in god, but i definitely believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that each different opinion is no more or no less valid than anyone elses.  I think your ridicule of and attack on religion is somewhat foolish since there are good things that come out of it.  stuff like morals and ethics.  i realize that these exist whether there is a god or not, but i think that religion is a good way to introduce these morals and ethics to children.  anyways.. you seem very eager to challenge and lock horns with those that do believe in&nbs

I hope i don't sound like i'm claiming to be better than you when i say this, but u dont' seem to be at all sensitive to what other people think.  You obviously have a prejudice against those who believe in god.  Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't one of the things that makes Canada so great the fact that everyone has the right to believe what they choose without being harassed? The way i see it, your dismissal of religion, and all those who believe in it is as bad as racism.

Once again, i'd like to reiterate the fact that i don't believe in god, but i think your approach for dealing with those who do is unjust and wrong.

i look forward to your response

sincerely,
k*****

Dear K*****:

Many people share your views and you have stated them very clearly.  So I will take some time and answer them.  Here is why I am so eager to convince people that God doesn't exist.  First of all, God doesn't exist.  Second, people that believe that God exists also believe that in some way their God is in control of things, and/or that their God wants them to behave in a certain way, and usually a whole lot of utter crap that influences their lives and ours.  Third, we humans are breeding to the point where it is obvious that nature will take it's ugly course to reduce our numbers.  I don't want you or me, or my son or my daughter, or anyone for that matter to suffer an ugly social economic disaster just because you and I didn't do our best to prevent it.  Yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and they are freely expressing theirs, so I am freely expressing mine.  Yes, there are good things that come out of religion--like morals and ethics.  In fact every major religion stresses a high importance on the telling of the truth.  I too stress importance on telling the truth and the truth is that there are no gods controlling or watching over us or looking after us--we are on our own to take care of ourselves.  If religions could remove the god element from their doctrine the world would be a far better place to live in, however, I would probably no longer classify their doctrine as a religion.

I'd like to emphasize that I love all people and think that it is imperative that we give people who practice religiosity their lives back and that we act urgently to save our planet from ourselves destroying it for ourselves.  I ask you what could be more just then encouraging people to face up to the truth?

Yours sincerely,
