When i've heard your arguement on the "evils" of
organized religion, I noticed how you bashed
Christianity. For some reason, which you might not
have intended, your message puts across that EVERY
Christian is ignorant, stupid and just plain evil. I'm
a Christian, and I have nothing against atheists
because I was once a "Thinker" who made sense of God
in my own life, after I felt that he saved my life
from potential suicide, thanks to a few "Believers"
that meet me at the right time. Let me counter some
of your arguements in a civilized manner, which you
have lacked.
1). "If God can make everything and has the power to
make anything happen at any time then why can't God
make another son?"
Well, he only needed one for the job at hand, didn't
he? And if you ask why God is so heartless to kill off
his son, well Jesus knew the job at hand and the risks
involved, therefore he willingly laid down his life
for us.
2). "Believers are taught not to question the word of
god"
In order to believe, you must question everything, and
understand why. I started questioning about God, and
found he because of it. (That, and meeting the
Believers)
3). "God dedicated all of his time meeting the dead,
you would only get to meet him for half of one
second."
God is not limited to mortal boundaries, including
time and space. So, he can meet people for more than
half of one second.
4). "But not for two thousand years has Jesus
returned! It seems that God is insensitive to the
countless generations of Believers that have waited
throughout their lives for his return."
Did it ever occur to you that we are not even in hot
water yet? If you think today's world falling apart,
imagine what it would be like when Jesus shows up
again. I think, and many Christians think, that Jesus
hasn't shown up yet because the world is not yet in
danger. Also, you cannot predict when Jesus will come,
as stated in The Bible.
5). "I would like free them of their oppression. I
would also like to free the Believers from the harmful
effects of not living the truth due to their religious
beliefs."
If atheism's the truth, how will we ever reach self
actualization? What's the point in living when there's
nothing to look forward to after you die?
6). "Believers do not have the wherewithal to realize
that they are being taken. They
readily turn their money over to "authorities" of
their religious organizations.
Newspapers are spotted with articles reporting the
extortion and misallocations of
funds by religious authorities--not to mention the
articles of rape and other
injustices committed by religious authorities."
About collecting money, churches need to pay the rent
and utilities. How do they pay? Collection plate! The
churchgoer puts in only as much as they can spare and
then the plate is passed on. It's much more fair than
the old Catholic practice to pay money for their sins.
As for misallocations, yes it has happened. That is a
prime example of one bad apple spoiling the whole
bunch. You must realize that not all churches waste
money, but that what your article seems to imply. It
also implies that religious authorities are a bunch of
dirty altar boy molesting perverts and criminals. Not
all religious figures are like that! There are
actually some honest ministers in the church. Try to
meet one some day, you'll see that they are not the
epitome of all that's bad.
I also have some interesting arguements for you to
think over.
A). It took 6 days and nights to create earth, right?
Now tell me, before the light separated from the
darkness, as told in Genesis, how long was that time
before light? It could have been a couple of days like
the bible said, or it could have been millions of
years! Do you think that it gives God sufficient time
to prepare? I'll look into this deeper and let you
know.
It was great argueing with you and I hope we can do
this again.
