Hey Darwin:
My pertinent facts - female, 29, Australian living in Canada, Science
Student.
I would suggest I am an atheist but I must point something out. My
family
is Jewish. Well the ones that survived the Nazis are, most of them
were put
to death for their religion. That bothers me, but I digress.
The so called
God of the Christians is not the God of the Jews. The Christian
God
believes that man is sinful or some such... the Jewish God however, has
no
conception of his followers as sinners or even people in need of
redemption
or any of that. He just wants his followers to be nice to each other
and
enjoy life. He wants people to enjoy stuff like sex and wine and all
that
stuff the Christian God thinks is naughty. The Jews have one God,
the
Christians at last count were up to three. The Jews do not have a
"New"
testament since only the Christians believe in the stuff contained
therein;
it is kind of insulting to Jews to call their book "Old".
So this might seem a little silly for an atheist to write (kind of
like
saying Santa Claus is different from Father Christmas or some other
invented
character) but on behalf of my family, I feel it is worthwhile to point
out
that Christians and Jews do not share the same God from an
ideological
perspective. Either belief is irrational to me, but hey, as long as
my
ducks are in a row - and I can avoid the religious nuts, my life is
travelling smoothly! Thank God!
Regards,
