Good evening David,
I've read over your web-page
(just like some others, I stumbled upon it looking for a government page), and I
have read over some of the responses you received. I am a Christian, but
what you wrote does not offend me so much as sadden me. I don't have any
snappy comebacks or intellectual arguements - I just want to let you know one
thing......you may have already heard this a thousand times, but God loves you
sooooooo much that even though what you wrote broke His heart, He still loves
you and there is nothing you can say, do, or write to ever change that.
You don't have to believe in Him....He gave us free will for a reason - He wants
us to choose to believe in Him and love Him back. A relationship with God
wouldn't mean very much to Him or to us if we were "programmed" to do it now
would it?
Unfortunately, many are
programmed into "churchianity" (a.k.a. religion) from an early age by their
parents, their culture, etc. and that's all they know about God - that He's
just a religion. And that will lead to nothing but emptiness....I suppose
it would be almost worse than not believing in anything at all, don't you
think? At least you think that you've got it all down pat - there is no
God and that's the end of the story for you. That's easier than saying
"I've been taught that there is a God all my life, and I've been doing all
the things I've been taught to do, but I still can't feel Him". It's
actually really interesting when you read the gospels (the New Testament books
of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) to see that Jesus was the biggest rebel of His
time. He basically wanted to abolish "religion" - He was always being
challenged by the religious leaders of the day known as Pharisees, but He always
had good and perfect answers to their questions and arguements, and He always
spoke of love. It seems to me that that's what religion (as it has come to
be known) has forgotten about - love.
All I can say to say to you is
that I hope (and I will pray) that you find this love one day soon.
What have you got to lose? All you have to do is sincerely say to
God "look, I don't know what you're all about, but I'm willing to give you a
shot, so if you're really real, please come into my heart to be my saviour,
please forgive all my sins, and show me your love". That little
prayer has changed millions of lives forever. And don't worry about
anything you've done or said in your past against Him, he will forgive you
no matter what (trust me, it's in His book - one of many places is Isaiah
chapter 1, verse 18: "Come now, let us argue this out", says the Lord. "No
matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can remove it. I can make you as
clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I
can make you as white as wool."). We are all sinners, even Christians, which is
why we need to ask for forgiveness daily (and you can do this by yourself, a
priest is not required). I've got to tell you that there is no better
feeling than having the Lord wrap His arms around you and showering you
with love and forgiveness. Knowing that you are at peace with your creator
is incredible. It's really real and even you can experience it if you
choose to take a chance on Him.
You may not care, but you will be in
my prayers. He loves you, and so do I because I have His love in me.
Please at least think about trying Him out. I can't promise you that
your life will be easy from that point on, but you will definitely have a joy
and a peace that you won't be able to explain. And I don't know about you,
but that sounds pretty good to me. Good night David, and God bless!
